It features a modern and intelligent heating solution connected to the island\u2019s existing school boiler house, which operates on ground-source heating. The Estonian Islands\u2019 Energy Agency developed the concept and enabled both buildings to be heated by a single system, ensuring smoother, more efficient heating management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jaan Mehik<\/strong>, energy consultant at the Islands\u2019 Energy Agency, explained:<br>\u201cWhile reviewing the sports hall project, we discovered that its heating system had been planned separately from the nearby school boiler house. However, once we assessed the boiler house\u2019s capacity, it became clear that it could also heat the sports hall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/eisea.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/Vormsi-katlamaja-1-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1695\" style=\"width:288px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eisea.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/Vormsi-katlamaja-1-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/eisea.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/Vormsi-katlamaja-1-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/eisea.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/Vormsi-katlamaja-1-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/eisea.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/Vormsi-katlamaja-1.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOriginally, the project planned for air-to-water heat pumps to be installed in the sports hall. By connecting the building to the existing boiler house instead, we achieved savings in investment costs as well as improved energy efficiency.\u201d<br><br>\u201cIn cooperation with the boiler house designer, we verified the technical feasibility of the solution and proposed it to the municipality. The change was approved by both the municipality and the builder, and as a result, the heating of both buildings can now be managed conveniently and efficiently from a single system, reducing heating costs.\u201d<br><br>\u201cWe\u2019re pleased that we were able to assist\u2014and that construction had not yet begun,\u201d added Mehik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly opened sports hall now offers island residents sporting opportunities that were previously unavailable on Vormsi. The facility features a full-size basketball court and can also be used for volleyball, badminton, tennis, and floorball.
